And so it begins…this being my first winter season as a mom has
introduced me to the fact that I will no longer get to take my sick
days for when I’m sick. Those days are now for when my daughter
Reese is sick. So far it’s been 2 months into 2008 and I’ve almost
used all my sick days for the year. I don’t take these days off for
my sick days, but for her sick days. I can’t remember the last time
I had to use all my sick days in one year, let alone in 2 months and
I don’t remember ever being sick so many times in one winter? So now
I go to work sick so I can save my days for when my daughter has a
cold, fever or a double-ear infection (just finished her medicine for
that one) and can’t go to daycare. Don’t get me wrong, I want to be
home with her when she’s sick and take care of her but I didn’t realize
how often those days would be for me as a mom. So for now, I’ll keep my
Kleenex at my desk, take my Dayquil (oh yeah, no Nyquil because I’m
afraid I won’t wake up at night if Reese wakes up) and try not to get my
daughter or husband sick again. It’s a never-ending cycle!
